DENS - our chosen charity

DENS - our chosen charity

By Colin Wingfield On March 22, 2013

At the beginning of this year, the management team at Autorama made a decision that we wanted to support a local charity. When a request for a leased van was received from DENS, a Dacorum based charity for the homeless and those in poverty, we wanted to help immediately. DENS had enquired about the cost of a leased van through our Vanarama website www.vanarama.co.uk DENS does sterling work in our area, helping to eradicate homelessness - they provide Rent Aid and promote and distribute much needed food parcels through their Foodbanks and we felt we could do our bit as well.

We decided to provide DENS with a leased Citroen Relay van and cover the cost ourselves. The well known local dealer, Roy Chapman, has offered to service and maintain the van. Since the recession has taken effect, DENS have been called upon more and more to help local homeless people and those in caught in the poverty trap, and the charity have told us that without our help they would never have been able to afford a van.

Unlike many national charities, DENS is not a high profile unit, but that made us all the more determined to help them. Jenny Studman, DENS Marketing and Fundraising Manager, has told us that they will be able to do so much more now they have the leased van. Not only can they move their clients to temporary accommodation from their night shelter, they can use the vehicle to make DENS Dacorum Food bank collections, and move client's furniture into new accommodation.

Whilst it might sound corny, we really do believe that it's important to give something back when you can and I'm really proud that we can make a difference by supplying this van to DENS.
