Want to know more about the Toyota C-Hr?

At the cutting edge of hybrid car technology is the brand-new Toyota C-Hr – it's a stylish, upmarket family car that combines low running costs, great handling and attractive trim options into one incredibly desirable vehicle. Vanarama's Tom Roberts reports.

Toyota's C-Hr is not just another SUV trying to copy the Nissan Qashqai, it's a massive leap forward from Toyota's successful RAV4 – it's smaller, sleeker and a new challenger in the SUV/Crossover market. It's also capable of automatically switching to its reduced-emission electric mode when moving at low speeds – it's clever AND good looking. What a car!

Looks AND smarts

On the outside, it's an angular vehicle with cool jagged lines, swept headlights and accented body work that makes it look like a futuristic stealth plane – it looks fast and furious in equal measure. And on the inside, it's got all of the classic Toyota comfort and functionality you'd expect, in a variety of trim levels.

Hybrid fever

While the C-Hr is available in two engine types – the 1.8l petrol/electric engine from the Prius, and a 1.2l petrol engine – it's the hybrid option that people want to know about. This is going to be a primarily town/city vehicle, so that's where the hybrid option really comes into play.

Think hybrid, you think Toyota, and C-Hr is a next step. As you might have guessed, the C-Hr automatically switches to its reduced-emission electric mode when moving at low speeds. Simple as that. And when speed picks up it switches over again. Child's play, really, and you'll save money on insurance and tax.

Final verdict

In short, the Toyota C-Hr is packed with equipment and is a superb drive – and the hybrid version with its promise of 75mpg and low running costs makes means this family car won't break the bank AND is kinder to the environment! Sounds like a winning combination, right? Check out the deals we can offer here.
