Citroen has been building vans since 1926 but it was at the beginning of the Second World War that the company started what was something of a quiet revolution in commercial vehicles with a van called ‘The Tub’. With its front-wheel drive, sliding side door, low loading sill and one-piece body, it was a pioneer for the modern light commercial vehicle. Next on the production line were the Type H, the C35 and the C25 – which were followed by the Relay and Dispatch, produced in 1994 and 1995 and also known as the Jumper and Jumpy.
The Relay and the Dispatch are still incredibly popular today, and every time a new version comes out, Citroen builds on the solid basis of the original vans. The Relay is the model to choose if you're looking for a large van with some serious loading volume. It’s also large on choice with the option to pick Luton vans, chiller/freezers, glass carriers, minivans and more.
Citroen has also ensured that your vehicles will be safe by fitting the advanced Trafficmaster Smartnav dynamic sat nav as standard – this means that your vehicle can be tracked if the worst should happen and it is stolen (there’s a 98% stolen vehicle recovery rate), plus it offers a range of other benefits – such as 24/7 personal assistance and emergency and breakdown support. The system has also been proven to reduce running costs by 10% and improve fuel economy by up to 12%.
The Dispatch has a great loading volume of up to 1,200kg and yet is no bigger than a large people carrier, which makes it great for manoeuvring and parking around town.
The Berlingo meanwhile, continues to be a success in the UK market, offering a versatile smaller van that is big on the inside – with a load volume of up to 3.7m3 depending on the model you choose.
Stop and Start technology ensures even better fuel economy and green credentials – and vans powered by the e-HDi diesel engines are rewarded with the Airdream signature, which Citroen reserves only for its greenest models.
The best-selling Berlingo is the Berlingo Enterprise, which comes with a number of features as standard, all designed to make your life easier – air conditioning, rear parking sensors and Citroen’s own Connecting box, which brings Bluetooth and a USB socket for hands-free phone and MP3 player use.
