Key Points

Hours of Driving

  • · The daily driving limit is 9 hours per day. For two days of the week this can be extended to 10 hours if necessary.
  • · The weekly driving limit is 56 hours
  • · The two - weekly driving limit is 90 hours

Rest Period - Weekly

Over the course of a week, a driver must accumulate 45 hours of rest. Alternatively, this can be taken as a block of 24 hours. Should this option be used, the maximum amount of time between the rest periods, are six 24 hour work periods. (6 days).

Rests - Daily

Between working periods, there should be a minimum of 11 consecutive hours of rest. This can be reduced to 9 consecutive hours of rest up to three times a week. The rest can be taken as two periods if necessary. The minimum period for the first rest is 3 consecutive hours, and the minimum period for the second period is 9 consecutive hours.

The rest should be completed within 24 hours of the last weekly or daily rest period.

Breaks

A driver has to take a 45 minute break every 4 ½ hours of driving. This can be split into 15 minutes and the second lasting 30 minutes.
