Often company policy will dictate the carrying of passengers, but the following Vanarama checklist will help you decide whether or not you can take a passenger, and the rules concerning them outside of company policy.
- · Passengers should only be allowed if a company allows it
- · To carry a passenger they must have a seat. That means no taking them in the loading area of the van
- · One passenger per one seat
- · Seat belts must be warned
- · Adjust your driving to suit the conditions. Avoid sudden braking and acceleration where possible
- · The van must be in good road worthy condition. Brakes, lights, warning systems and the engine must be in full working order.
- · Seatbelts reduces the risk of death or serious injury by half.
