AA launches scheme for young drivers

Companies that use van contract hire can take advantage of a new scheme to help train their young drivers.

The AA DriveTech scheme offers fleet managers with large numbers of apprentices a fully managed programme that puts young members of staff without an existing licence through their driving test.

In addition, it helps them learn the various health and safety legislation and practices by which they need to abide.

"Employers can be assured that not only is the tuition of the highest calibre but also that their employees are being managed by occupational driving experts. It's far more involved than just getting them through the test," said Paul Holmes, director of the FleetSafe division of AA DriveTech.

Once they have past their test, drivers enter a risk management programme that involves annual online risk assessments, practical and online training where necessary, post incident reviews linked to specific refresher training and ongoing support and advice.

Earlier this week, the Freight Transport Association launched a secure-load guide for van fleet operators.
