Have you got what it takes to achieve Van Excellence?

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has recruited GreenRoad to support and become a partner in the Van Excellence Scheme.

The scheme has grown in popularity on the same scale as the UK's van sector which has risen considerably year on year.

The Van Excellence Scheme has two aims, to reduce fuel consumption and to reduce the amount of accidents on the road. To earn accreditation fleets and drivers must adhere to a strict code of practice and show evidence that they have done so.

Backed by many organisations most of which are household names, the Van Excellence Scheme is more than just a piece of paper and bureaucracy as it has shown to get results. Businesses which have adopted the scheme have shown a 50% reduction on accidents which involve collisions together with 10% fuel cost reduction.

Arguably the main reason for the scheme's success is the accreditation has been developed by van operators rather than an outside body, so the code of practice is largely relevant.

Many businesses have signed up to the scheme and share knowledge which helps to maintain the reductions in accidents and fuel consumption.

Project manager for the FTA said: "We are delighted to have GreenRoad on board as partners of Van Excellence. As leaders in driver performance and safety management they bring a huge amount of value to the scheme in terms of experience and expertise, and their support is invaluable."

Aidan Rowe of GreenRoad said: "We chose to partner with FTA because its Van Excellence scheme plays an important role in helping fleets become safer and more fuel-efficient. We hope that through this partnership we will help van fleet managers understand that it is possible to change driving behaviour and achieve considerablesavingsin accident costs, fuel, insurance and wear-and-tear."
