Brake calls for new road safety scheme

Van leasing customers may be interested to hear one expert's comments about the importance of addressing risk-taking among young male drivers.

Road safety charity Brake explained at the 9th Road Safety Forum International Congress that this is the best way to help save lives in Britain.

Campaigns director for the organisation Julie Townsend explained how statistics show that one 17-year-old male driver in every 451 is killed or suffers a serious injury before their 18th birthday.

"It's unacceptable that so many young male drivers are involved in these violent and traumatic events that have a lasting impact on their lives, in some tragic cases prematurely ending them," she stated.

As a result, Brake is campaigning for the government to introduce a system of Graduated Driver Licensing in the UK, which it claims would help reduce the number of incidents.

The initiative would see young motorists required to complete a learner period for a minimum of 12 months, followed by a stage two novice period for two years, before finally being granted a full licence.
