Council aims to improve vehicle sustainability

Firms making use of vehicles such as the Nissan NV200 and hoping to minimise the impact they have on the environment might be interested in the findings of a new study conducted by Leeds City Council.
The local authority carried out a trial over a year-long period using its refuse collection vehicles and discovered costs and emissions can be lowered by using biomethane, rather than diesel, reports Fleetnews.co.uk.
Leeds City Council's environmental assessment officer in transport policy Richard Crowther stated it had "already done a great deal" to make its vehicles be less harmful to the environment.
However, he added: "We've reached a point where that in itself won't be enough to meet our environmental targets."
This follows the recent announcement that Nissan has commenced work on a prototype electric vehicle based on the NV200 - recently chosen as the new taxi of choice in New York - which will be put through a series of tests.
