Drink and drug driving campaign targets van leasing customers

Van leasing customers and fleets have been urged to ensure their drivers aren't under the influence of alcohol or drugs when behind the wheel.

The Fleet Safety Forum, a division of road safety charity Brake, has launched a new campaign called Face Facts which highlights the dangers of doing so.

Fleet managers interested in advertising the campaign among their drivers can order posters and an electronic campaign pack from the group, providing facts and figures as to the dangers of driving while under the influence.

Roz Cumming, fleet safety forum manager at Brake, said: "Drink and drug driving remains a sad reality that fleet managers need to do all they can to tackle.

"This new campaign pack is a valuable first step in reminding your drivers of the dangers and showing them your organisation is serious about stamping the problem out."

Research conducted by Brake alongside the campaign indicates that those who drive for a living are twice as likely to consumer three or more units of alcohol before getting behind the wheel than those who do not.

What's more, 33 per cent of at-work drivers admit to driving first thing in the morning after a heavy night, even though the alcohol may not yet be out of their system.
