Drivers 'change habits to save fuel'

Individuals who are interested in leasing Citroen Relay vans may be among those who admit to changing their driving habits to save fuel.

New research carried out by the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) revealed that 80 per cent of people have adapted their behaviour in order to be more eco-friendly.

Making fewer journeys than previously, ranked top of the reformed habits with 38.10 per cent of drivers cutting back.

Meanwhile, 34.54 per cent claimed they now walk to places they would have considered driving to in the past.

IAM director of policy and research Neil Greig said: "With rocketing fuel prices it is clear that drivers are changing their behaviour, which is good for their health and the environment."

It was suggested that checking tyre pressures and driving at a constant speed can help keep fuel consumption down.

Many people may have gone so far as to take the bus instead of their car in order to save money, after Stagecoach recently reported a rise in profits.
