Ford to fit new Curve Control technology to cars and vans

Ford van contract hire customers could soon be benefitting from new technology aimed at helping them keep in control when taking a curve too quickly.

Unveiled this week in the US, the new Curve Control system from the Ford Motor Company is set to be installed in the upcoming all-new Explorer when it hits the forecourts in 2011.

The automotive giant has also confirmed that it will be offering the technology in around 90 per cent of its North American crossovers, trucks, vans and sports utility vehicles by 2015.

Based on Ford's existing AdvanceTrac and Roll Stability Control systems, this latest innovation makes user of sensors to measure roll and yaw rate, wheel speed and steering wheel angles, with this data used to adjust power and braking systems accordingly.

"These new active systems designed to prevent accidents are the perfect complement for Ford's leading passive safety systems - such as advanced airbags and high-strength vehicle structures - that protect occupants when a crash is inevitable," noted Paul Mascarenas, vice president of engineering for global product development at Ford.

Meanwhile, Ford van leasing customers recently learned that the 2010 Ford Transit Connect won the 2010 North American Truck of the Year Award.
