FTA calls for safety compliance throughout Ireland

Companies that lease Ford Transit Trend vans in order to transport good throughout Ireland may be interested to hear about a new campaign.
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is leading a call from the All Island Freight Forum for the introduction of harmonised safety and compliance across both Northern Ireland and the south of the island.
Tom Wilson, FTA's head of policy for Northern Ireland, said: "By expediting operator licensing in the north, we would really help improve the odds of seeing a similar degree of compliance in the south."
He added that such a move would be good news for all road users as it would "drive out the rogue vehicle operators" and make motoring safer.
It was also suggested that having a joined-up approach would make compliance compulsory and lead to significant improvements.
The news comes after the FTA recently reported that the price of fuel is putting companies under increasing strain as they battle to keep up with rising costs.
