IAM calls for training incentives

Van leasing staff drivers could be offered further training by their employees under proposals from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).
The organisation has launched Road Safety Manifesto which features a range of measures it wants the next government to introduce.
Among what it describes as its "more radical" ideas is a scheme whereby companies are given tax breaks to provide their staff with further driver training.
"A lifelong approach to learning, delivered through advanced training, is the single biggest factor that can benefit road safety," said Simon Best, IAM chief executive.
"Human error is the biggest cause of crashes, so improving driver ability is the best way to deliver real reductions in road deaths and injuries: better driver behaviour must be the key road safety priority for the next ten years."
In addition, it has advocated incentives for chief constables to conduct more high-profile policing of the country's roads.
The IAM offers its own advanced driving programme called Skill for Life.
