Female van leasing hire customers are more likely than their male counterparts to make their child passengers feel safer, new findings have revealed.
According to road safety organisation GEM Motoring Assist, children tend to feel safer when their mum is behind the wheel of a vehicle rather than their dad.
Responding to a survey, six in ten kids said they feel happier and more relaxed when travelling with their mum, with dads criticised for driving too fast and being more aggressive.
David Williams, GEM's chief executive officer, said the research shows that mums are "the most calm" drivers.
"Unfortunately many children seem to dread getting in the car with dad because his mood is unpredictable and they never know when he is going to get an attack of road rage," he commented.
A further two thirds of children said their dads are more likely than their mums to weave in and out of traffic and change lanes at speed.
GEM reported last month that changing clocks every summer and winter "causes chaos" for many motorists.
