Manufacturers praised for safety commitment

The head of RoadSafe has highlighted the importance of considering safety when choosing a vehicle for van leasing.

Adrian Walsh, director of the road safety charity, said manufacturers are "continuing to take a lead in making safety a priority", but that consumers must be made more aware of the range of safety technologies currently on offer.

He points to a recent study by eSafetyAware which found that less a third of fleet decision makers in the UK looked for a EuroNCAP rating when purchasing cars and vans.

In addition, Just 41 per cent said their fleet policies had requirements for specific safety equipment in vehicles.

"Everyone involved in the motor industry - manufacturers and dealers alike - need to work with researchers, campaigners, law enforcers, policy makers, consumers and the media to raise awareness of the safety technology available in newer vehicles," he said.

EuroNCAP announced last year that it is now testing the safety of van models in addition to cars.
