Van leasing customers have been warned to be vigilant when using a level crossing.
Police have said that many drivers are continuing to risk their lives by ignoring warning signals and attempting to cross tracks when a train is approaching.
British Transport Police launched a coordinated crackdown on the practice on Tuesday (June 22nd).
Some 49 drivers were stopped for failing to observe the lights or barriers at railway crossings at junctions in Berkshire, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and London, the BBC reports.
PC Chris Shepherd told the news provider: "Incredibly some people are still putting their lives on the line by ignoring warning lights and sirens and trying to dash through crossings when trains are approaching.
"When people ignore the warnings, there can be fatal consequences."
According to figures recently released by Network Rail, there were over 3,200 incidents of misuse at level crossings last year, including 14 collisions between vehicles and trains.
