Motorists urged to check insurance policies for pothole damage cover

Van contract hirers may be able to claim on their insurance for damage caused to their van by potholes.
The UK's roads have been left littered with potholes following an unusually cold winter.
These can easily lead to damaged wheels and suspension and, while the local council may compensate for some claims, drivers may want to check their insurance policies to see if they are covered.
That is the advice of research firm Defaqto, which has said that cover for some damage, such as that to tyres, may not be included.
Mike Powell, insight analyst at Defaqto, said: "Local authorities are still struggling to fill the vast amount of potholes that have been created from the severe winter so the problems for motorists are far from over.
"Consumers should check their policy features and exclusions as they may be able to recover some costs of repair."
The AA recently claimed that even when councils have repaired potholes, poor workmanship has left many roads just as dangerous as they were before.
