New accident figures show 'road safety works'

According to the latest data from the Department for Transport, the number of road users seriously injured across Britain fell by five per cent in 2009 when compared to the previous year's figure.
In addition, the same period also saw a 35 per cent drop in the number of children killed on UK roads.
On the back of the publication of these official statistics, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has noted that they show that "road safety works".
"All of this shows the value of having a comprehensive road safety strategy," said Kevin Clinton, head of road safety at RoSPA.
He added, however: "The challenge now is to keep this momentum going and continue the reduction in death and injury on the roads in the current economic climate."
This comes just days after TyreSafe advised van leasing customers and other motorists of the potential dangers of buying part-worn tyres.
