REVEALED: UK’s top 10 most expensive cities to park in

Parking could be costing you £360+ a year

Research has shown that UK drivers can sometimes pay more than £360 a year to park while they go to work. But which are the top 10 most expensive cities in the UK? Vanarama's Tom Roberts reports.

Would it shock you to learn that nearly half of the UK's working drivers pay close to £400 a year to park just so they can do their jobs?

The research looked at how much it would cost to park for 9 hours – an average working day – with over 80% admitting they paid for it themselves!

What are the top 10 most expensive UK cities to park in?

Here we go, the meat and potatoes of this article…are you ready to be shocked by the average price to park for a working day (9 hours between 8:30am to 5:30pm) in these cities? Number 1 will come as no great surprise…but the others will:

How to save money on city parking

There's got to be a way to save some money, right? There always is, there's always a little life hack we can deploy.

And this is no different…you'll need to park outside the city centre. I know, that's not practical for everyone, but a little walk for site-based or office-based workers could save you a fortune in parking fees.

Here's a list of how much money you would save as a percentage by parking outside a city centre from just some of the top 10 most expensive cities listed above:

  • Glasgow – 29% saved
  • Manchester – 74% saved
  • Leeds – 54% saved
  • Liverpool – 56% saved
  • Sheffield – 40% saved
  • Birmingham – 62% saved

You could save a fortune!

So, you can see there are huge potential savings to be made by finding parking outside the city centres you work in.

We understand this will work for some, and not for others, but on the days you can park outside the city centre, you could save yourself a fortune.

The research (carried out by Leasing Options), asked 2,000 drivers to reveal what kind of money they parted with when parking for work.

What do you think about the price of parking (are we opening a can of worms here?) in cities across the UK? Let us know in the comments below, or on the social media post you came here by.
