SNP demands fairer fuel prices

Van contract hire customers will no doubt be hoping whoever wins the next election will tackle rising fuel prices.

The Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP) are now campaigning for a fairer prices at the pumps and the introduction of an independent regulator to decide on fuel duty levels.

It claims that since Labour came to power in 1997, fuel duty has increased by 45 per cent.

SNP deputy leader Nicola Sturgeon said that families and businesses are being hit hardest by high fuel prices.

"Cutting fuel duty when oil prices go up is essential for all. It is outrageous that duty has been allowed to increase by 45 per cent at the same time as oil prices going up."

Earlier this month the AA claimed that rising petrol prices would be a major voter issue in the upcoming election.

"The AA voter will be looking to see how other parties respond to the burden of petrol prices soaring to a new record," said the organisation's president Edmund King.
