Established in 1969 by Father Tony Sartori as a roofing company www.supreme-ltd.co.uk has now grown into a complete building services company. It might be an older, established company but this certainly doesn't mean Paul Sartori and his team don't have fresh ideas. Having started a Response Section two years ago covering all of London, Supreme can be on site within hours to attend any emergency. Constantly evolving and improving over the years and being open to new ideas, has lead Supreme Building Solutions to work for some big name clients. These include London Boroughs, ALLSOP, KFH, The Imperial War Museum, TV personalities, Saracens and Arsenal Football Club to name just a few.
Paul has taken time out from his busy schedule on-site to share his thoughts on the ups and downs of running your own business:
Why did you join the family business?
We're counting down to our 50th anniversary of trading now, so I've grown up with the family business. I saw no reason why we couldn't continue to grow the business as we always knew that we did it better than the rest!
What do you enjoy about working for yourself?
We make our own decisions – and of course our own mistakes – but we do it our way.
What are the biggest challenges you face?
It's not easy to just leave it all behind when you are your own boss. There is a constant worry – but controlling the 'controllables' helps ensure a job well done (and a good night's sleep!).
Like any business, keeping on top of cash flow is can be a challenge – especially when you are trying to expand as we have in recent years.
Best business tip?
Be prepared to put the hours in. Offer your client the best possible service and reap the well-earned rewards.
What's been your greatest business success?
We've been trading for over 45 years, through economic booms and busts and always come out stronger. Having worked with my father and having the 3rd generation now joining the business and passing Supreme onto them fills me with pride.
Any business mistakes?
I think many people who work for themselves harbour a little 'control freakery'! I know I've been guilty of thinking I do best and can find delegating to others difficult. I'm still working on that one!
