Technology can help improve road safety even more, expert argues

Van contract hire customers should be able to make use of new technology so as to keep both themselves and other motorists safe on UK roads, it has been claimed.

The government's latest official figures, which have been released this week, show that the number of deaths on Britain's roads fell by 12 per cent between 2008 and 2009.

And while this news has been welcomed, RoadSafe has stated that, by making use of modern technology, such as ESC anti-skidding systems, it is possible to reduce the number of accidents further still.

"There is still a need to focus on road safety and the benefits that technology can afford, particularly for consumers," explained the organisation's director Adrian Walsh.

He added that, since the market for such technology is led by consumers, UK drivers need to be made more aware of its advantages so as to drive demand forward.

As well as boosting levels of cooperation between road safety professionals and the government, RoadSafe also cites encouraging corporate bodies to do more to promote road safety and traffic management as being one of its key aims.
