TFL Code of Practice for Out of Hours Deliveries during Olympics Released

Transport for London (TfL) has released a code of practice for business to take out of hours deliveries during the Olympic Games next year.

TfL has recently conducted trials of their code of practice in London boroughs that will be affected by the games. The code was drawn up in association with the Freight Transport Association (FSA) and the Noise Abatement Society (NAS).

The trial has given TfL a clear picture of what measures delivery drivers to commercial premises need to take to minimise noise disruption to the London Olympic Games.

Recommendations include keeping equipment as well maintained as possible, avoid sounding horns during the games, try to avoid multiple deliveries to one place, switching off radios when in the boroughs, trying not to wait outside residential properties, and to switch off engines when not manoeuvring but at the same time to avoid too many start- stop-start of the engine to avoid over revving.

TfL is asking for feedback on the code and this can be given here at this website: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/2012outofhoursdeliveries

London Transport commissioner Peter Hendy, said that businesses need to prepare for the games as some routes will be closed and the traffic levels are expected to increase considerably especially at peak times.

He suggested business should stock up on non perishable goods and share delivery vehicles with other vehicles. He also suggested changing delivery times to avoid congestion was also an option that should be considered.
