Used van prices reach record high

Those considering investing in a van may want to consider contract hire rather than buying one second hand following the release of figures from British Car Auctions (BCA).

According to the auctioneer, the average price of a used van reached a record high this April.

A 4.2 per cent (£193) increase compared to March saw used van prices rise to an average of £4,693.

"BCA's Duncan Ward said: "Although we are in a period when we might typically expect prices to stall, values continue to march on.

"The good levels of demand, allied to a relatively thin supply of stock at almost every price point means there is plenty of competition for every van we sell."

Values have risen for nine out of the last ten months, and record values have been set for six months in a row.

Demand for new vans also continues to rise. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders expects 202,000 vans to be registered by the end of the year, a rise of 8.6 per cent on 2009 levels.
