Van contract hire drivers in consultancy sector most likely to have penalty points

Company car, van and truck drivers working in the consultancy industry are the most likely to have a high number of penalty points on their licence, it has been revealed.

Fleet software company CFC Solutions has released a list of the best and worst offenders when it comes to bad driving in a company vehicle.

Its research reveals that those who work in the financial and insurance sector are among the safest, with 93.69 per cent having no points on their licence.

In contrast, 8.33 per cent of consultants who drive for work have five or more points.

They are followed by workers in utilities (7.2 per cent), telecommunications (6.42 per cent) and recruitment (3.23 per cent).

Neville Briggs, managing director at CFC, said: "When it comes to assessing which company car, van and truck drivers are a risk on the road, most employers split them into groups, usually based on independent DVLA checks to see how many points they have on their licence.

"Those with no points are low risk, of course, while those with five or more points represent a much higher risk - they are serial offenders in road safety terms."

CFC recently reported that around one in five company car and van drivers tested through its Licence Link software had points on their licence.
