Van contract hire drivers shunning electric vehicles?

Van contract hire drivers may be avoiding electric vehicles because of the low mileage range and high cost, a new survey has suggested.
A poll by review site Parkers.co.uk found that 69 per cent of respondents would not buy an electric vehicle.
Of these, 25 per cent cited the purchase cost as the main barrier, despite the government recently announcing it would offer a £5,000 subsidy for anyone who buys an electric vehicle.
However, the biggest obstacle highlighted is the limited distances electric vehicles can travel, with 32 per cent saying this is the main reason they have not considered buying one.
Meanwhile, the survey found that 18 per cent of people would not buy one because they do not think they are actually 'green', while 17 per cent believe conventional cars 'are just better'.
Electric vans currently on the market or in development include versions of the Mercedes Vito and Ford Transit.
