Van leasing customers in the Waltham Abbey area should take extra care in keeping their vehicles secure following a spate of thefts in the region.
Thieves made off with dozens of valuable tools from five vans parked in both streets and private driveways in the Essex town on Saturday (March 20th), the Waltham Forrest Guardian reports.
Police have urged van drivers to be vigilant, believing the vans were deliberately targeted by a criminal gang.
Tony Ellis, Epping Forest District crime reduction officer, told the news provider: "Anyone that has tools which they can't risk losing should not leave them in vehicles.
"While it can be a pain, it is best to remove them every time just to be on the safe side."
According to a survey by van insurance company Swinton Commercial, van drivers see security features as the most important factor when deciding on a new vehicle to purchase, with 36 per cent ranking this above anything else.
