Van leasing companies urged to check drivers' tyres

Van leasing companies should check the tyres of all their vehicles to ensure they are properly inflated and have deep-enough treads.

That is according to Protyre, which warned about the dangers potholes can cause to tyres and wheels ahead of the Easter weekend, when thousands more cars are expected to be on the roads.

It urged van drivers to ensure they are using the correct tyre pressure and clean dirt from around the valves.

On top of this, Protyre suggested that tyres should have a treat of around 2.5 to 3mm, safely above the minimum 1.6mm mandated by law.

"It's easy to forget to check your tyres with all the distractions of an Easter getaway, but they are critical to the safety of your vehicle," said Simon Hiorns, retail director at Protyre.

Last month, van leasing customers were urged by GEM Motoring Assist not to attempt to swerve out of the way of potholes, something that can actually cause more serious accidents.
