Van leasing customers to take their vehicles abroad this summer?

Van leasing customers may be considering taking their vehicles abroad as part of their summer holiday.

A new survey has revealed that 62 per cent of van drivers would rather take their vehicles on long journeys than the family car because of the extra space and comfort they provide.

The poll of 1,000 van drivers, by van insurance company Swinton Commercial, found that 53 per cent of respondents plan to use their van for a UK holiday, while 27 per cent will be taking it to France, Spain or Italy.

A further four per cent said they would take their van even further than Europe for their summer break.

Phil Moss, commercial vehicle manager at Swinton, advised those planning to drive as part of their holiday to take safety precautions, such as refreshing their knowledge of the highway code, or learning the speed limits and driving laws of any foreign countries they will be going to.

"This will ensure that the family summer holiday will be safe and successful, and will also reduce accidents on the road and keep van insurance premiums to a minimum," he said.

The number of British holidaymakers travelling abroad fell 15 per cent last year as a result of the economic downturn, it was recently revealed.
