Van leasing customers urged to take care on country roads

Van leasing customers should take extra care when driving on country roads now that the summer months are here.

That is according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), which pointed out that crashes on rural roads tend to be more serious, partially due to the fact that they hold many hidden risks.

IAM director of policy and research Neil Greig said: "The lush grass at this time of year makes it particularly difficult to see round bends.

"Take corners with extra care. There is bound to be lots of wildlife tearing about, so be prepared."

Previous research by IAM indicates that summer is the worst season for rural road deaths and serious injuries, most occurring when the weather is pleasant and roads are dry.

Its report 'Rural roads - the biggest killer' also indicated that nearly half (45 per cent) of these accidents take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
