Vauxhall: Low fuel marathon shows benefits of improving driving technique

The Vauxhall Movano, a model available for contract hire, took part in the Fleet World MPG Marathon this week, achieving impressive results.

Designed to test the fuel efficiency of commercially available vans, the marathon involves a route close to 400 miles that the competitors have to complete using as little fuel as possible.

The Movano completed the race with fuel consumption figures of nearly 49mpg, a 13.91mpg improvement on its official rate.

Driver Wayne Buswell said the event highlighted the savings that can be made by van drivers if they adopt techniques to cut fuel consumption.

"In shunning the white van man stereotype, I have showed that by driving with skill and anticipation it's possible to get a great deal more from a gallon of fuel," he said.

The winner of the Fleet World MPG Marathon was the Citroen Nemo, taking the tilte for the third year running.

It achieved a fuel consumption rate of 81.93mpg.
