Volkswagen rated number one for security

Companies interested in leasing VW Transporter vans may be pleased to hear that Volkswagen has come top of a poll based on security features.

What Car?'s annual Security Test, which is run in conjunction with Thatcham Vehicle Security, saw the manufacturer place in first position.

Volkswagen topped the league thanks to 11 of its models qualifying for the assessment, while Audi and Volvo came in at second and third respectively.

Among the vehicles in the range, were the Caravelle, Passat, Eos, Caddy Maxi, Passat CC, Sharan, Tiguan, Touran, Touareg, Phaeton and Jetta.

What Car? editor John McIlroy suggested criminals would be less likely to target any of the models, saying: "If a thief has the choice of a car that they know is easy to break into or a top-rated Volkswagen product, their choice is going to be easy."

The publication has been testing cars for 40 years and compares brochures and spec sheets as well as putting vehicles on the road in order to ensure they are thoroughly reviewed.
