Women drivers more likely to have scrapes and bumps

Female van contract hirers are more likely to be involved in minor scrapes and bumps, a new study has revealed.

However, men are much more prone to head-on collisions, research by insurance company Diamond has found.

After analysing more than two million accidents, the company discovered that women tend to be more likely to have collision on a roundabout and hitting cars from behind.

Meanwhile, men are at greater risk hitting crash barriers and trees or driving up and down embankments.

They are also more likely to drive through floods or suffer a vehicle fire.

Diamond's managing director Sian Lewis said: "Our research suggests the way men and women drive is different. Possibly men drive faster and more aggressively than women, while women are more easily distracted than men behind the wheel."

Men frequently cost more to insure than women as statistics show they are much more likely overall to be involved in an accident.
