The Vito has always been one of the more stylish medium panel vans on the market and the latest generation is as visually appealing as ever. With anti-lock brakes, emergency braking assistance and electronic stability control both supplied as standard, this three-seater base model is as safe as it is practical.
Powered by a 2.2 litre diesel engine through a six-speed manual gearbox, the Vito 110CDI produces 95bhp which is more than adequate for most light-load work. This model has a gross vehicle weight of 2,800kg and a gross train weight of 4,600kg. Fuel economy is good with combined EC figures of 36.2.
As the most compact model in the Vito range, the 110CDI has the shortest wheelbase (3200mm), the shortest overall length (4748mm) and the smallest load capacity at 4.65 cubic metres. This model is available only with manual transmission. Should you require more pulling power, you would need to upgrade to one of the larger engines, all of which provide the option of automatic transmission.
Easy to drive and offering car-like comfort, the high standards of build quality and refinement that are a hallmark of Mercedes-Benz vehicles are very much in evidence. Large door mirrors offer excellent visibility and the switchgear has a pleasantly solid feel to it. A two-speaker radio/CD player provides basic entertainment but can easily be upgraded to a more advanced model.
As always with the Mercedes marquee, quality does not come cheap and servicing at an authorised commercial vehicle centre could be costly. This base model Vito is also more expensive than the competition. On the flip side, the high fuel economy figures and high level of reliability mean that, once purchased, the Vito is relatively cheap to run.
This Vito falls into insurance group N and, with emissions of 206 g/km, has a current tax cost of £125 per year. If you only ever need to carry relatively small, light loads, this excellent all-rounder will happily cope with a wide variety of tasks.
