If you are looking for a great-looking medium panel van that has plenty of power yet still delivers when it comes to fuel economy and low emissions, the Vito 113CDI might be just the ticket.
The 2.1 litre diesel engine produces 136bhp, nearly 40 more than the 110CDI model. However, despite packing a bigger punch, the use of BlueEfficiency technology means the more powerful engine actually returns greater fuel economy and lower emissions than its smaller sibling. The combined EC figure is 37.7 while emissions come in at 198 g/km.
The basic compact, three-seater model is an easy-to-drive extremely practical workhorse and if you need more capacity – either for passengers or cargo – or power but would like an identical vehicle, simply upgrade to one of the other models in the same range. Whereas the 113CDI is only available with a six-speed manual gearbox, upgrading to one of the larger engines on offer brings with it the option of automatic transmission.
The other alternative is to stick with the basic model but then choose from the plethora of optional extras, most of which are aimed at increasing driver comfort or efficiency.
As you would expect from Mercedez-Benz, the build quality across the range is excellent but with a sticker price generally higher than the competition, it doesn’t come for free. On the plus side, a number of highly desirable safety features are included in the standard model including electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes and emergency braking assistance.
The standard Vito can carry a payload of up to 930kg but there is an option to upgrade this to as much as 1145kg. With a low loading sill and wide door openings – wide enough to allow fork-lift loading – the 113CDI makes it easy to make full use of all the space inside. Even the compact version has space for two euro pallets making this vehicle suitable for a wide variety of tasks.
