Don't let the name fool you – the Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian Auto is anything but barbaric. Sister car to the Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian, this five-seater, double cab flatbed van has a host of impressive credentials, which not only make it ideal for commercial work but also provide a ride that drivers and passengers alike can enjoy.
The L200 Barbarian Auto is similar in engine build and performance to its companion – but offers an automatic transmission for the diesel engine, which provides 175 bhp. One side effect of the automatic gearbox is a drop in fuel efficiency, although you can still expect 31 mpg, making it competitive in its class. It also rates as 9E in insurance groupings, owing in part to the high quality security features.
Outside, the L200 Barbarian Auto can compete against any top end SUV or MPV in the looks department. Its contemporary styling reflects both the comfort and power, with a bold, striking design. The all-colour bodywork and 17" alloy wheels are slick and lavish, reflecting the calibre and quality of the vehicle.
There is also, of course, an accommodating loading deck, which makes the vehicle perfect for commercial work, as well as day-to-day enjoyment. It accepts a 1045kg payload and even with the double cab there is a 1.52m load length, 1.47m-load width and 0.46m load height.
On the inside, you can enjoy all of the perks that you would expect with a top end passenger vehicle. This includes satellite navigation, cruise control, rear view camera, Bluetooth support kit, tachometer and electric compass, barometer and altemeter. There are also driver and passenger airbags, childproof locks and safety seat fittings, as well as an entertainment system and iPod connections – everything to make your journey safe and enjoyable.
