Nissan Navara Tekna (Auto)
People who want to combine the power of a pick up and the comfort of a luxury vehicle – including the perks of automatic transmission – should cast an eye over the Nissan Navara Tekna (Auto). As the name suggests, it is part of the Japanese manufacturer's heavy duty Navara range, but has the added attraction of an automatic clutch.
Looks-wise, the Navara Tekna (Auto) is aggressive and impressive. The all-colour body and bumpers are accented with chrome fixtures at the grille, roof rails, wing mirrors and loading deck grab bars, as well as the 17" alloy wheels. There are doors to the front and second rows of the double cab and a one-handled release tailgate, making loading passengers and cargo equally convenient.
Passengers have plenty of space in the traditional configuration five-seat cab. The front seats are electrically adjustable, while the back seat bench is separated in a 60/40 split, allowing you to fold portions down as needed for extra interior luggage room. A radio and CD player with six-CD multi changer will ensure they aren't bored, as well as Bluetooth phone integration and trip computer for driver convenience. All the other gadgets you'd expect from a top range passenger vehicle are there, including electric windows and sunroof, leather upholstery and safety features such as airbags and child seat mountings.
With dimensions of 1.905m in height, 5.296m in length and 1.848m in width (excluding mirrors), the Navara Tekna (Auto) accommodates a sizeable cargo and takes a payload of 1110kg. However, the 16-valve diesel engine packs a powerful punch, providing 190 bhp, meaning you can reach a top speed of 111 mph.
In comparison with its manual sibling, the automatic five-speed gearbox does lose some efficiency however, resulting in CO2 emissions of 238 g/km and 31.4 mpg. Insurers rate this impressive multi-purpose vehicle as group 11E – not the cheapest, but a reflection of the caliber of the van.
