The latest model of Toyota Hilux Pick Up is a robust performer yet has the plush feel of a comfortable passenger vehicle. While it may not be the most luxurious pick up on the market but it's a very generous blend of comfort and practicality.
The interior 2-seater cabin has more space than previous models, making access much easier; aided further by the wider-opening front doors. Seat positioning is higher and there is even more headroom, without compromising the amount of storage space overhead and inside the doors. There is a pretty good audio and CD system with central joystick controls, as well as air conditioning, vehicle alarm and remote central locking operated by key fob.
Certainly there is only so much style you can expect from a pick up and it is sleek to look at, but what it lacks in obvious beauty it makes up for in durability. The Hilux has a strong 3.0-litre diesel engine with 253 lb-ft of torque, whilst still offering fairly low running costs. In terms of cargo it has a payload of 860kg, which is not too bad for a medium sized pick up, especially considering it can handle an impressive (braked) towing weight of 2250kg. Certainly there is ample storage space, with a loading area of 450mm x 2315mm 1520mm. Another nice touch is that the engine noise is much lower than you'd expect with a pick up thanks to its design, and all in all the Hilux is pleasantly smooth to drive.
You can take the Hilux off road to experience its durability and hardy performance in rugged terrain but it will be just as hard-working and pleasant to drive in an everyday urban environment. This really is a vehicle that performs well, however you need to use it.
