Our Review of the Hyundai Iload

The Hyundai iLoad 2.5 CRDi 116ps is a panel van that performs well in its class. It is bit of an unsung hero as commercial vehicles go, as it has both the performance and the fuel efficiency to make it stand out from the competition.

The Hyundai iLoad is powered by a 2.5 turbo diesel engine which produces around 114bhp, and a torque of around 343Nm, so shifting a capacity load from a starting position or up a steep incline is no problem for the Hyundai iLoad. Arguably, what is most impressive about the van is that at a mere 1750rpm, the Hyundai iLoad produces around 50Nm more torque than its closest rival in its class. Lower revs to move capacity loads mean less fuel consumption, and a better drive. The Hyundai iLoad goes through 33.2 mpg.

The Hyundai iLoad unlike many commercial vans is rear wheel drive and as a result steering and manoeuvrability are good. Once the iLoad is up and running engine noise is not intrusive, and the driver's visibility is good thanks to a high seating position.

Payload on the Hyundai iLoad is 1062kg and dimensions wise it has a length of 2375mm, width of 1620mm and a height of 1350mm. The loading area stands around 4.3 cubic metres, and can accommodate two standard pallets. The Hyundai iLoad can be loaded via the rear doors or the twin sliding doors on each side. Accessibility is not a problem on this van.

Behind the wheel there are no frills, but it is fair to say the Hyundai iLoad is the essence of practicality and has a logical layout including a dash mounted gear stick, and plenty of storage options for the crew. The interior is made up of bland grey plastics which at the very least can be wiped clean.

What is particularly good about the Hyundai iLoad is the features that come as standard. Air conditioning, electric mirrors and windows, CD stereo with aux - in connectivity, height adjustable steering column, driver and passenger airbags, height adjustable driver seat and seatbelts, full sized bulkhead, and central locking. Many of the Hyundai iLoad's rivals charge a lot for these extra bits and pieces that Hyundai supply as standard.

The Hyundai iLoad is in direct competition with Ford Transits and Volkswagen Transporters, and in comparison it stands up very well. With the extra features as standard, it is sure to turn a few heads over the coming year.
