Van Heroes 2016 Winner

Husband and wife dream team win Vanarama Van Hero 2016 title!

After fighting off competition from hundreds of entrants including four other outstanding regional finalists, we are excited to reveal that the winner of the Vanarama Van Hero 2016 competition is Rachel Greenley with her husband, Lee, of Harriet Lee Building and Construction!

Less than two years ago, Lee had been facing a life of uncertainty on the dole queue, after being made redundant from his job as contracts manager for a building company. Fast forward and having joined forces with his wife Rachel to form Harriet Lee, Lee, from Upper Llandwrog in Gwynedd, is celebrating, as the couple have this month, been chosen as winners in our UK-wide competition to uncover Britain's Best Van Heroes.

Using their experience and expertise, the couple have created a competitive new building business from the ground-up. Lee is the builder, spearheading the building and technical side of the business, meanwhile Rachel is the customer focus.

As well as forging a new business, Rachel and Lee have thrown themselves into helping the local community. They have raised funds for a new playground in their village, donating time and materials to the project. Their company also sponsored the local school sports day, providing medals, prizes, water and of course, new sacks for the sack race!

Commenting on their win Rachel says, "We are absolutely thrilled to have won this award from Vanarama, it recognises of all the hard work our whole team has done and what we have achieved. It's great to have our potential recognised and the prize will help us financially to achieve our ambitions over the next 3 years." Rachel continues, "Vanarama are leaders in their industry and we are trying to emulate their type of service and success in ours!"

Andy Alderson, Managing Director of Vanarama says, "As we thought, the quality of entrants we received from contenders for the Van Hero title was really high. There are so many entrepreneurial van drivers out there, building their businesses and making a vital contribution to the UK economy. It was hard to pick the winner, but Rachel and Lee stood out not just for their hard work and community spirit, but also for their resourcefulness, use of the latest technology and considerate planning for the future of their business."

Indeed, with the addition of a brand new Ford Transit Custom on a free 3-year lease deal, Harriet Lee Building and Construction looks set to grow, "We're so excited to win the title, not only will it help us in marketing our business, but also, another vehicle will help us to get an extra team out there working and completing the high quality local building projects we've become known for," says Lee.

Today's opening hours are 8am-10pm
