Volkswagen Crafter 2.5 TDI 109PS High Roof Van
Winning a range of prizes at the What Van? Awards, the VW Crafter has made a name for itself as a class-dominating large-size van. With 3 seats up front and a boat- load of room in the back, the Crafter is guaranteed to pull its weight and thanks to some handsome styling, it doesn’t look too bad doing it either.
In terms of size, the 109PS Crafter matches the 136PS when it comes to max load height (1.9m) and width (1.8m), but it does come in a metre shorter in terms of length (3.3m). If you need that extra bit of load capacity it may be worth looking at the larger model. The VW Crafter 109PS also lacks some of the extra power of the 136PS edition, but in its place it offers an impressive 28 miles per gallon meaning lower running costs. Both editions handle via a 6-speed manual gearbox and feature a 2.0 litre diesel TDI under the hood, but the 109PS edges ahead in terms of payload, handling an impressive 1369kg in the back. If you’re transporting heavier loads, then this is the van for you.
The new BlueMotion Technology utilised across the Volkswagen range means that the Crafter has one of the most efficient engines in its class. The van is up to the Euro V emission standard, which not only qualifies you for the lowest level of LGV road tax, but also dodges the charges under the new Low Emission Zone in London. When it comes to insurance though, the Crafter lands in a higher group (7E to 10E) than its smaller VW brothers.
To keep you going on longer journeys, the Crafter comes with a 5 speaker radio and CD player as standard. There’s also a choice of sat navs available as an extra.
