Volkswagen Transporter 2.0 TDI 102PS Kombi Van
The VW Transporter is an iconic range of vans with a lot of history, but for a model that will cope with both crew and cargo, the classic Kombi variation is the best bet. Seating 6 with room in the back for equipment, this is a great carrier with the level of safety, high build-quality and passenger comfort that Volkswagen’s are known for.
Under the hood, the Transporter Kombi features the same 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine and 5-speed manual gearbox as the others in the range. The Kombi provides 102bhp and 37.7 miles-per-gallon, managing an impressive payload of up to 1224kg and an additional 150kg on the roof. The low CO2 emission of the TDI also means that the Transporter complies with the Euro V standards for vehicle emission. This lets you avoid the charges under London’s new Low Emission Zone, and also places the Kombi in the lowest level of LGV road tax. Landing between the 5E and 7E groups, the Kombi’s insurance costs are also only slightly higher than the smaller VW Caddy.
With the seats down, the Kombi’s maximum load sizes peak at 2.6m x 1.4m x 1.7m, easily matching the other Transporter’s in the range and offering a little extra than the T28. With two seats down, the Kombi will manage a decent balance between cargo and passengers, making it the most diverse option amongst the mid-size segment. If you’re likely to see a balance between cargo transport and people carrying, then the Kombi is the one for you.
With a load of passengers in the back, you’ll also be glad to know that the Kombi comes with not only a basic radio/CD-player, but can be fitted with an MP3 compatible CD upgrade or an aux input socket for your own music players as extras.
